StudioMDHR has released a new branch of Cuphead, called Legacy. It is a completely remastered version of the game that includes new content and gameplay mechanics. The game will be available on Xbox One and Windows 10 in Spring 2019.

StudioMDHR has released a Legacy branch of Cuphead. This is the first time that the studio has done this. The update includes new content, changes to gameplay, and more.

Cuphead’s legacy version is now available on Steam, and it’s the “exact launch build as Cuphead, with no applied patches and no future support,” according to StudioMDHR’s patch notes from December 20th, 2017.

The Legacy branch contains the launch version’s exploits and bugs, but it will not be supported or modified in the future. This indicates that the legacy version contains previous bugs. Additionally, using this branch may cause player saves to be corrupted or erased.

The new branch allows previous Cuphead runs’ strategies to reappear in the spotlight. Some of the patches released after the initial release had broken strategies that sped up the game’s completion time.

However, this has little impact on the speedrunning leaderboard. Current Cuphead categories (except Glitchless) are run on a “Legacy” board, which is a downpatched version of the game.

Only those who own the Steam version of the game can access the legacy branch.
